Note to the Reader: Hello dear Reader! It has been a few weeks since my last post (I stepped away for this past month or so both to work on a few other projects, as well as to simply visit with family for Christmas), though I intend to resume writing essays in the coming weeks! I did for today, however, want to make a special New Year’s Eve post in order to express my gratitude to you, dear Reader! Below is a Substack Note I just posted (a “Note” is essentially Substack’s version of a “tweet”); though I was not sure if all of my subscribers would see the Note, so I wanted to republish it here. Hoping to be back with new essays and announcements soon. —Peace, Caleb.
Happy New Year’s Eve everyone!
Really grateful for the few people I’ve met here so far (at least virtually), and I am extremely grateful for the people who have subscribed to Saints, Scholars, & Starships and/or read any of my essays from this year!
We’ve explored a lot of topics so far at the intersections of religion, philosophy, & technology including but not limited to:
the importance of Grace in our time (“God & the Great Filter”)
how humans can never create from nothing—or go “from 0 to 1”—but we can make from something (“From .1 to 1”)
the philosophy underpinning Elon Musk’s computer brain-chip company (“Descartes & Neuralink”)
suggestions for the designs of floating seastead cities on the open oceans (“The Floating City of Reef”)
The life and relevance of St Isidore of Seville—the “schoolmaster of the Middle Ages”, who preserved a huge amount of information from the ancient world as the Roman Empire was collapsing, while being a true holy man—(“A Saint for Our Times”)
And more!
Really looking forward to 2025, and I will soon be getting back to essay writing, and I may experiment with short stories as well at some point! Hope to have a few more surprises in store as well.
God bless dear Reader, and may you have a great 2025!
